IT IS THAT TIME OF THE YEAR!

IT IS THAT TIME OF THE YEAR!

It is sometimes called the “silly season” but every year we encounter the same types of problems at this time of the year.

Student friendship groups seem to deteriorate, especially with some of the older students moving to high school. This results in:

  • Behaviour being affected that can result in conflict and ongoing relationship issues
  • Bizarre types of behaviour that disturb the quiet, orderly learning environment
  • Unnecessary adult intervention in student relationship issues

WHY DOES THIS OCCUR!

There are many reasons but the most common are:

  • Students are tired and their routine is disrupted through “end of year” activities
  • Teachers are often  not as patient to spend the necessary time to help the students sort through their issues
  • The friendship issues seem to escalate at this time of the year

WHAT CAN WE DO?

We will follow our usual processes around student conduct and codes of behaviour

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Listen to your children and talk to them about their response. Accept their issues as they believe them to be true.

Ask them some crucial questions around their friendships to determine whether it is serious or a “one off” issue.
