The National Testing Program in Literacy and Numeracy was conducted last week for all our eligible Year 3 and Year 5 students.
WHAT IS THE NAPLAN TEST?
The test is held annually for Year 3, 5 7 and 9 students Australia wide. Literacy and Numeracy are tested and the results are independently assessed by a team of approved assessors. It is marked not only on content but the students’ understanding of our language and how it works. The numeracy test assesses how our students can apply Mathematics to solving problems.
WHAT IS TESTED?
The different areas being tested include:
LANGUAGE CONVENTIONS – students are given a series of multiple choice questions about:
Correct spelling of words
This year it was a Narrative Writing Task
HOW ARE WE INFORMED ABOUT THE TESTING PROGRAM RESULTS?
All parents of students who have undertaken the test receive an individual report about your child explaining their results.
Our school will receive a summary of all students that have been tested with different data on their standard compared to their expected standard and how they have improved since their last NAPLAN test (Year 5 students).
WHAT WE ARE EXPECTING?
We are expecting (like all schools) that our results improve from year to year. We take notice of the results and implement programs throughout the school to improve our student learning. This is one of many processes we use to assess the overall academic improvement in all students.
Our next significant information session on how your children are progressing will be the three way Parent/Teacher interviews at the end of Term 2. Teachers are available on appointment to speak to you about your children on a regular basis as well.
