Prep is such a significant and magical year of every child's life and we are so excited to have this opportunity to teach your child. We provide a safe and stimulating environment that nurtures and promotes the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of each student. Throughout the year children are engaged in a range of ‘hands on' learning experiences that cover all areas of the curriculum, with a strong emphasis on developing their early literacy and numeracy skills.
Throughout term one, the Preps settled into the routine of school by building their independence and exploring what it means when we “Strive to be our best”. We would love for you to continue to encourage and remind your child to practice their independence. For example putting their own bag away.
Share Books are sent home each night. These are small books which we encourage the children to read with your assistance. Please remember that the pictures in these books give the young readers clues about what the words might say, so its important to talk about the pictures and what might be happening in the story first.
The first words to go home are the ‘gold’ words. These are the ten most common words used in English. Once these are learned, your child will receive a certificate. The ‘red’ words (which are the next most common words) will then be sent home. Words can be learned at home in whatever way you would like. We also work with these words at school.
Share Bags & Hats
Please help your child to remember their share bag and hat every day. Share bags are very important as they are used to convey notes, money, share books and homework to and from school. The government regulates that hats are compulsory in terms one and four.
Our Prep students all have a Year 5 or 6 Buddy who helps to model and support our school Values of Trust, Respect, Sense of Humour and Learning. The Buddies provide fantastic role models for the students in our learning areas and outside play.
We are thrilled to be working with you and your child to help them to develop.
Area 2 - Term 2 News
We have been enjoying another busy term of learning. We have already had some exciting highlights!
A visit to Bunjil Place.
The Preps have enjoyed a bus trip to Bunjil Place in Narre Warren where we learned about different ways we can look after our environment such as picking up rubbish and recycling
Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea
It was wonderful to see so many Mums and Caregivers attend our annual Afternoon Tea. The Preps enjoyed making the gifts, singing the “Mother’s Day” song and sharing the food.
This term our Big Idea focus is “Every Action has an Equal and Opposite Reaction”. Preps have been exploring what happens when different types of liquids and solids are mixed together. On Tuesday June the 5th ‘Mad about Science’ visited the Prep Area. This was a fun and educational day for the Preps and has helped to build their understanding and knowledge of chemical reactions.
We are especially proud of how the children have settled into the routines and expectations of school life. They have been working hard practising their Reading, Writing and Mathematics skills! Well done Preps!
Don’t forget to read every night and bring your books back to school and change them
Thank you to all our parents and caregivers for partnering with us to support your child’s learning.
We are looking forward to another productive term!
