STEM

Science at Cranbourne West Primary School is all about curiosity, discovery, and hands-on learning. Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, our program encourages students to explore the world around them through biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, and environmental studies. Students learn to question, investigate, and problem-solve while building a strong understanding of scientific concepts.

Beyond the classroom, our lunchtime Science Club gives students the chance to extend their learning through fun experiments and projects. We are also proud to participate in the It Takes a Spark Conference, providing opportunities for students to engage with STEM experts, new technologies, and innovative ideas to inspire future thinking.

Digitech

At Cranbourne West Primary School, our Digital Technologies program helps students become confident, creative, and responsible users of technology. Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, the program develops skills that allow students to thrive in coding, robotics, problem-solving, and digital thinking, preparing them for an ever-changing world. A strong emphasis is placed on building foundational skills and understanding, ensuring students have the essential building blocks to support further learning and success in the digital space.

Online safety and respectful behaviour are woven throughout all Digital Technologies lessons. Students learn how to protect their personal information, communicate responsibly, and make safe choices when using technology. We draw on trusted resources, including the eSafety Commissioner, to ensure students understand how to navigate the digital world with confidence and care.

Visual Arts

Visual Arts at Cranbourne West Primary School gives students the chance to explore their creativity and express themselves in a range of artistic forms. Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, our program develops skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art while encouraging students to think creatively and problem-solve.

A unique feature of our program is the inclusion of Art Therapy, which supports student wellbeing by providing a safe, creative outlet for self-expression and emotional growth. Students’ work is regularly celebrated within the school and at community events, building confidence and pride in their achievements.

Performing Arts & Auslan

At Cranbourne West Primary School, students have the exciting opportunity to learn AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language) as part of our Languages Other Than English (LOTE) program. Taught alongside Performing Arts, AUSLAN provides a creative and engaging way for students to develop communication skills, cultural understanding, and confidence. Our program aligns with the Victorian Curriculum, ensuring students build their knowledge of language and culture while exploring signing through songs, stories, and performance.

Performing Arts is a vibrant part of school life, with students participating in a whole-school concert each year and Wakakirri every second year. We also offer Instrumental and Choir lunchtime clubs, giving students further opportunities to develop their talents and share their love of music and performance.

Physical Education

At Cranbourne West Primary School, our Physical Education program is designed to promote lifelong healthy habits and a love of being active. Research shows that physical activity has significant benefits for both children and adults, contributing to improved health, wellbeing, confidence, and learning outcomes. Through engaging lessons, we aim to build a happier, healthier, and more connected community.

Our specialist-led program focuses on developing fundamental motor skills in the early years, such as running, jumping, catching, and throwing, and progresses to more complex, sport-specific skills in Years 3–6. Students also learn about persistence, teamwork, responsibility, and respect while having fun and building a positive attitude toward health and fitness.

Students in Years 3–6 take part in regular sport sessions and have the chance to represent CWPS in interschool competitions, including athletics, cross country, gala days, and School Sport Victoria pathways to higher-level events. Year 1 students participate in an intensive two-week swimming program, while other year levels take part in water safety activities both in and/or outside the classroom.

Our staff further strives to provide opportunities for students to excel in a variety of sports at a higher level by running training sessions for our interschool sport teams, ensuring they are well prepared to compete whilst having fun. This commitment has led to outstanding achievements over the years, with our school proudly winning multiple flags; a highlight being crowned Hoop Time State Basketball Champions in 2024.
